Abstract

Budiarti, Dwi N., Amananti, Wilda., Riyanta, Aldi B. 2025. Evaluation of Physical Properties of Sunscreen Lotion Containing Turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.) Extract. Turmeric (Curcuma domestica Val.) is a medicinal plant that contains curcumin, a compound known for its strong antioxidant activity, making it a promising active ingredient for sunscreen formulations. This study aimed to formulate a sunscreen lotion containing turmeric extract and to evaluate its physical properties based on Indonesian National Standard (SNI). An experimental method was applied, including preparation of simplicia, extraction via maceration using 96% ethanol, and formulation of lotions with three different concentrations of turmeric extract: F1 (1%), F2 (3%), and F3 (6%). Physical evaluations included organoleptic testing, pH, spreadability, adhesion, and hedonic (preference) tests. Total sampling method was used, involving all available test samples. Data were analyzed using ANOVA. The result showed that Formula I did not meet the requirements in organoleptic, adhesion, and spreadability tests. Formula II met the criteria in organoleptic, pH, and adhesion tests. Formula III did not meet the requirements for organoleptic, spreadability, and adhesion. Based on these findings, Formula II (3%) demonstrated the best performance and is recommended as the optimal sunscreen lotion formulation using turmeric extract as the active ingredient.
